The impact on the community was devastating, with 99% of children in the area found to have dangerously high levels of lead in their blood.

Over 7,000 properties, including residential yards and schools, have been cleaned of leaded soil, significantly reducing the risk of exposure. Average blood lead levels in children have plummeted from 67 micrograms per deciliter in the 1970s to just 2 micrograms per deciliter today, well below the CDC’s reference value.
